Twenty-two of them were my colleagues at Hines VA Hospital,” a visibly emotional Rodriguez said at a press conference. “Some of them didn’t even get a real notice. All they got was this,” he said holding up a document. “An email with Xs where the date should be and no name. That’s how little they think of people and of veterans in this country and that serve this country.”

“They’re slashing staff, crushing unions, and selling out the VA for what? So billionaires can make more money while veterans sit on waitlists or worse they’ll get no treatment,” he continued.”

Our president was asleep while Moscow’s at the wheel. Do you know what happens to a service member when they’re on duty?” he went on. “Veterans don’t trust him. He’s not one of us.”

“We’re not about to sit back and take the SEIU. We’re fighting back. We’re organizing and we’re taking action. We’re not going to back down,” Rodriguez said defiantly.

Donald Trump’s ruthless betrayal of our veteran community is one of his greatest sins to date. These people sacrificed their minds and bodies to keep us safe, and now Trump is gutting their access to healthcare so that men like Elon Musk can receive bigger tax breaks.

Horrifyingly, a Trump administration memo just revealed that DOGE is planning to “aggressively” cut a staggering 70,000 employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The result will be a crippled VA incapable of tending to our veterans. It’s part of the Republican plan to ultimately privatize the entire department, lining the pockets of the rich while offering inferior services at inflated rates.

This is absolutely vile and settles one matter for good: Republicans are not pro-military. The only thing they are is pro-greed.

I’ve been using the Chicago area V.A. Clinics for decades and always had excellent care. Hines Hospital is where I would go for more serious medical treatment if necessary. Hines treats hundreds of Veterans every day. They have more than a hundred handicap parking spaces available for Veterans using the hospital. They’re always filled and dozens of cars are always waiting for an open spot. Many of these Vets are disabled from their loyal military service. V.A. facilities across the country are typically under-staffed. Hines has partnered with Loyola Hospital, on the same campus, to provide medical treatments for Veterans. For greedy billionaires like trump, vance, musk and the spineless republi-cons in congress to cut services for America’s Veterans is criminal. American voters must stand up for their honorable Veterans. Vote for or donate to the Democrat candidates in the FL 1st and FL 6th U.S. house special elections on April 1st, and in the N.Y. 21st upcoming house election. And of course vote for the Democrats who actually protect Veterans in the 2026 midterms.
